Eastern Electricity's parent company, Eastern Group, has signed up for a 1000 user Oracle database in a deal worth #1.6m. The database will replace Eastern Electricity's Ingres database as the company readies itself for industry de-regulation in April 1998. It will be based at the core of a 500-user, UNIX based customer call handling system code-named Respond and will underpin a range of other applications across all departments.
