Not even war is an acceptable excuse for non-delivery of the £2.3bn National Programme for NHS IT.
According to a confidential contract summary seen by Computing, neither war nor nuclear contamination is sufficient reason for IT suppliers to miss delivery milestones and avoid being fined.

In the event of a so-called 'force majeure' incident, the five Local Service Providers (LSPs) contracted by NHS IT director general Richard Granger to support the National Programme may no longer be under an obligation to deliver. But they will still be fined.
'Delay and service deductions continue to be payable,' says the contract.
Accenture won two of the LSP deals, with BT, CSC and Fujitsu awarded the other contracts.
