Metronet, the private-public partnership responsible for maintaining two thirds of the London Underground network, says IT failures are to blame for service problems this week.
The company says loading of new computer software containing revised timetable information caused a total breakdown of the Central Line systems on Monday morning.
The systems crashed during peak hour traffic, with Central Line services not restored until 8.45am on Monday morning, though delays lingered.
Metronet has apologised for the systems breakdown, which occurred on the same morning that the District and Circle lines encountered delays.
