Seagate boosts drive capacity

The advances will let vendors such as EMC and StorageTek double the capacity of their Sata-based drive arrays, bringing entry-level configurations up to about 8TB.

Seagate also announced a new version of its Momentus 5400 drive for laptops, which encrypts data stored on the drive. The feature is primarily intended to keep data private if a laptop is lost or stolen.
