The Australian telecoms industry has attacked government plans to spend millions on upgrading the national telephone network to ISDN. An industry group said that the government should concentrate on improving services to remote areas instead of upgrading to a technology that could become obsolete. The telecoms industry believes standardising on ISDN will harm competition and investment by mandating one technology.
