Storage area network (SAN) management vendor DataCore last week announced SANmelody DR – a new class of “affordable, remote-site disaster recovery and storage mirroring” software for small and medium-sized firms.
The system protects terabyte-sized storage used by application servers running Windows, NetWare, VMware, Linux, Solaris or Unix on LAN, SAN or WAN connections. The software also includes two SAN Melody disk servers in separate locations for day-to-day storage management.
The software can run on low-cost Intel/AMD platforms and features include iSCSI and optional fibre channel connectivity, snapshot software support and long-distance asynchronous IP mirroring. The system is available now with prices from just under $8,000 (£4,500).
