Occasionally, an invention becomes an industry standard (Apple-Samsung ‘peace talks’ end in acrimony over patent values).
It would be wrong for Hoover to prevent anyone else from making vacuum cleaners. It would be wrong for Ford to prevent anyone else from making cars.
It’s bad for competition, bad for consumers and bad for industry. Apple comes across as a petulant child demanding its design ball back. And don’t forget, Apple didn’t even invent the tablet.
