Consultants are to blame for RBS disaster

26 Jun 2012

I know a few former RBS software developers and what you hear about off-shoring to reduce costs always makes you wince (EXCLUSIVE: Where NatWest / RBS went wrong – by a former RBS IT manager).

It started long before the financial crisis – long before the current financial constraints following the public bailout – it starts with management consultancy firms who advise management that they can reduce cost, boost productivity and increase share price. It ends up in a customer relations disaster and your previous current account depositors moving elsewhere.

RBS management clearly don't understand IT. But that isn't surprising, as they don't appear to understand banking either.

And if this is the state of their normal sysadmin, what is the state of their security?
