Libraries in southern Virginia have been banned from using filtering software to control the pages that patrons access from library PCs. According to a judge in a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, the use of filtering software in libraries is against the First Amendment protecting free speech. The case could have far- reaching consequences for libraries across the country, many of which have installed similar software.
