In the latest Computing podcast, we examine the issues behind the big stories this week.
The government’s £350m programme to provide a new network of control centres for the fire service has run into problems and the first three sites due to go live in October 2009 will miss the deadline - we examine the problems ahead.
And the Oscars of the IT industry takes place at the Battersea Park Events Arena on 5 November - we look ahead to the prizes on offer at the Computing Awards and review some of the past big winners.
who is this mumbling fool on the pod cast talking about the fire control project?? i think you really should do some indepth research before making comment on the single biggest change to face the british fire service since the end of the second world war, firefighters appose this project because the techonology does not exist to carry out the task CLG say it well, ask your self this one question if you were facing death in a burning building would you not want a control operator who had extensive local knowledge of your area mobilising resources to you quickley instead if relying on untested techonology in a system that will have less staff to handle calls? would you want to be put on hold if you were in this situation? i guess not, why are the CLG doing this? simple to save government money but its all back firing and this will cost every council tax payer more in the long tearm in order for the government to claw back the massive over spend they havr put into this white elephant
