Another company that people seem to love or loathe is Tesco. Retail success story or greedy corporate giant? Take your pick.
There will no doubt be those who see the firm’s latest IT innovation - encouraging developers to create web applications that link to its online grocery store - as the internet equivalent of buying land ready for a new superstore. But there are no planning applications on the web, and its short history has proved that first movers with bright ideas can gain a significant edge.
If other retailers follow suit as they must there could be a lucrative new market opening up for web developers.
