Getting a feel for it

24 Aug 2011

“A new tactile technology developed at Disney Research, Pittsburgh, called Surround Haptics, makes it possible for video game players and film viewers to feel a wide variety of sensations, from the smoothness of a finger being drawn against skin to the jolt of a collision,” Science Daily tells us.

We’re looking for the application for this in the workplace: the punch in the face when applications quit unexpectedly; the weight on the shoulders of a giant document to read; the tap on the shoulder when the boss requests your presence.

If anyone can suggest the correct physical way to represent “please hold the line, because your call is important to us”, we’d like to hear it. And, of course, other similar messages.
