They clearly work their staff hard at IBM Rochester. Jim Herring, manager of AS/400 strategy, was in the UK for a few days last week to meet customers and the press.
Over the course of a press breakfast, he declared that IBM was investing 'over $1 million a day' in the AS/400 platform. On being asked if this meant working days or calendar days, he assured the assembled hacks that every day was a working day at Rochester. 'We usually give them Christmas Day off, but with year 2000 I don't know if we will this year,' he said.
