Italian prisoners went online for the first time last week in a pilot scheme at the San Vittore jail in Milan.

A Web site allows inmates to post their artwork on the Net. Prisoners can also surf, albeit under stringent technical surveillance. Other prisons are expected to follow suit, if the project succeeds.
