Contrary to the accepted wisdom in the press, Nomura has not bought 1,100 network computers. Our competitors have worked themselves into a froth recently about the bank that has supposedly made the first crack in the Wintel alliance. News reports have reached the US, and Nomura's IT director Geoff Doubleday finds himself bombarded with calls from interested companies and analysts.

Nomura said it would buy them, if the right Java-based software was available - which it isn't yet. So please, Mr Doubleday asks, stop calling him.
