Parker's talk to the legal eagles also took in the thorny issue of governments' attitude to the encryption of digital information.
His view was that: 'Governments don't like things being encrypted. They don't know what's going on', and they are not keeping up with the latest technologies.
This explained a lot in the light of recent press reports that the UK's intelligence gathering centre GCHQ is suffering a 'critical shortage' of IT experts.
Parker revealed: 'We've had calls from GCHQ saying "that thing you sent to the US last week - what did it say because we can't decode it".'
