Day has won many challenges over the past year, delivering 99.9 per cent uptime on the law company’s servers. A fan of green measures, Day reduced paper consumption, explored server virtualisation, improved resilience and boosted efficiency. She also cut travel costs and the firm’s carbon footprint using mobile technology.
Patrick O’Connell, managing director, BT Health
O’Connell is responsible for three major contracts for the NHS National Programme for IT. He built and manages the UK’s largest virtual private network, and installed modern IT systems and services in hospitals, clinics and surgeries.
Darryl West, director of group IT, Lloyds TSB
West introduced a five-point strategy to move the firm forward, focusing on value for money, improving enterprise architecture, innovation, hiring the best people, and integrating providers.
Catherine Doran, director of information management, Network Rail
Doran manages a £180m IT budget, and supports the technology needs of 33,500 staff in 460 locations. She has concentrated on driving value from IT investments to support strategic business change. IT and information management are now an integral part of the business strategy and planning process.
Darrell Stein, director of IT and logistics, Marks & Spencer
Stein reduced service costs, and introduced new buying systems, e-commerce platforms and retail systems at the high-street giant. IT delivers more for less, service has been improved, demand management processes simplified and business change swiftly executed. IT running costs have fallen by 13.5 per cent.
Al-Noor Ramji, chief information officer, BT Design
Ramji implemented new business processes and restructured IT and HR
practices. He cut the firm’s carbon footprint and operating costs, implemented
agile development processes, and started one of the world’s largest service-
oriented architecture implementations.
Phil Pavitt, chief information officer, Transport for London
Pavitt led the transformation of IT at TfL, making it an intelligent partner to the business. He delivered streamlined, high-quality services in a cost-effective framework. Pavitt introduced new technologies and initiatives that have improved the business’s agility and reduced its carbon footprint.
