VARs left in limbo over Relisys warranty issues

Parent company claiming responsibility for monitors but resellers remain concerned

Written by Laura Hailstone

VARs are facing confusion over warranty liabilities for Relisys monitors after CRN revealed last week that the monitor arm of Relisys had gone into administration (CRN, 23 January).

In a statement issued to CRN, Relisys’ parent company Relitec Holdings initially said that Relisys Digital, the audiovisual arm of Relisys, would assume warranty liabilities. However, resellers have been unable to get in touch with Relisys Digital.

Glasgow reseller Premier Computing said it had sold hundreds of Relisys monitors and had already had two customers contact it with faulty monitors that are still under their three-year warranty.

Stewart Fyfe, director of Premier Computing, said: “There seems to be an information vacuum about the continuance of cover for Relisys monitors. The phone number for service is temporarily disconnected and its web pages are no more.”

Lee Baker, divisional manager at Relisys distributor Midwich, said: “Relisys has told me that a few people are trying to buy the Relisys monitor arm. The administrators have said whoever buys it will have to assume responsibility for the warranties.

“However, if no one buys it then Relisys Digital will cover the warranties. My advice to VARs is to try and hold off customers until Relisys communicates that its call centres are up and running.”

A statement issued by Relitec said: “Relitec Holdings is undergoing a company restructuring process.

Part of this resulted in Relisys being placed into administration. Because of this change the service telephone lines and web site are out of action, but normal service will resume shortly.

“Discussions are taking place whereby the responsibility for product warranties will be transferred. Once this is done, Relisys Digital will take over responsibility of warranties from the administrator. No comment can be made until all discussions are complete and contracts are signed. Once agreed with the administrators, we will make an announcement to all customers in due cou rse.”
