NHS: The Real Story

Over the next five years the government will spend an extra £5bn creating the IT infrastructure for a 21st century national health service

Written by Sarah Arnott

Over the next five years the government will spend an extra £5bn creating the IT infrastructure for a 21st century national health service. The National Programme is the UK's biggest technology project and the implications, both for the NHS and for the credibility of public sector IT implementation, are enormous.

It will not be an easy ride and things will go wrong. Computing's NHS: The Real Story campaign will analyse mistakes, point out holes in strategy and bring together the best experts in the field to take a critical look at individual projects.

But we will also highlight best practice, show the benefits of technology-based reforms and look at positive lessons to be learned inside and outside of the NHS.
