Responsibility

Individuals charged with custody of data must be aware of their duties and responsibilities both at their employment and under the law. They must also be made aware that any breach is likely to result in dismissal and probably a criminal charge to be answered in the courts.
Management who fail to ensure that their data custodians are not properly trained and equipped for the role must be deemed to be equally in the wrong when data security is breached.
Individuals must be held responsible, not organisations.
