Software as a service (SaaS) specialist Salesforce.com reported record second quarter revenue of $263m (£141m), up 49 per cent on the same period last year.

Revenue from customer subscription fees and support contracts for Salesforce.com’s on-demand customer relationship management (CRM) software was up 50 per cent to $239.7m, though only six per cent on the previous quarter.

Quarterly revenue from professional services and other parts of the business yielded $23.4m, 41 per cent up year on year.

Earlier this week, the company announced it has completed the acquisition of knowledge management software firm InStranet for $31.5m, which Salesforce.com will use to improve the performance of its automated customer callcentres.
