National Lottery operator Camelot is moving to a new hosted datacentre as part of plans to improve communications for its next 10-year licence.

The company is preparing a transition plan for the next stage of its delivery of the lottery, which commences in February 2009.

A new communications network will replace the existing ISDN links used to connect lottery outlets with the central datacentre.

The new infrastructure will be hosted in a dedicated suite owned by supplier Equinix.

“Our service delivery infrastructure demands a more sophisticated datacentre and we were attracted by the solution provided by Equinix,” said Jonathan Root, chief systems architect at Camelot.

“We can build our systems in an extremely secure environment, which benefits from operational excellence and the added resilience of direct access to multiple network providers.”
