One of the largest colleges of the University of London has implemented a fibre network to connect its sites and improve learning services.
The network, provided by telecoms supplier Thus, will carry data and telephone traffic between four main locations, improving scalability at Queen Mary, while providing consistent access to Janet, the UK's research and education network.
The aim is to enhance enhance collaborative learning by enabling e-science and videoconferencing.
A network that can incorporate future developments is a priority for Queen Mary, said John Cobb, assistant IT director at the college.
"We appreciate the advantages a strong and reliable communication network brings to everyone," he said.
"We strive to continually enhance and improve our network, to make it more capable and allow it to advance with new technology, so providing faster and more reliable access to educational resources."
