Ofcom sets deadline for mobile broadband spectrum bids

A provisional cut-off date of April 10 has been announced by the regulator

Written by Neon Kelly

Ofcom has set a provisional registration deadline of 10 April for organisations wishing to bid in the auction of wireless spectrum that could be used to support mobile broadband services.

The so-called "L-Band" in the 1452 to 1492 MHz range is considered to be particularly suitable for supporting mobile TV and data services, as well as wireless broadband access. Ofcom expects the final auction of the spectrum to begin by the end of April.

The regulator has promised that the sale of bandwidth will be conducted on a technology-neutral basis, allowing successful bidders to use the spectrum for any desired purpose.
