Armed forces' accident log system goes live

System will help record accidents and improve health and safety

Written by Tom Young

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has installed a system that will log accidents and equipment malfunctions across the armed forces.

The Incident Recording Information System (Iris) will make it easier for claims handlers, equipment managers and policy staff within the MoD to exchange information on incidents and claims

The project was a success, according to Richard Hatfield, director of personnel at the MoD.

"The system was delivered on time, to budget and to specification," he said.

The MoD will be able to gather information on trends and frequency of accidents in order to make equipment and processes safer for staff.

The system was delivered and will be maintained by Logica in a 10-year, £5m service contract.
