Sun Microsystems' $1bn (£500m) acquisition of open source database management company MySQL has been completed, six weeks after the deal was first announced.
Sun hopes that adding MySQL to its portfolio will both help it attract more Linux and Windows users, and target existing MySQL subscribers who do not currently use Sun products.
MySQL does not disclose how many subscribers are actually paying to use its products, but says it has millions of users worldwide. The company targets, web companies, Internet hosting firms, enterprises, telcos and embedded security devices and appliances.
