Indian outsourcer outsources

Wipro is opening an operations centre in Cebu in the Philippines

Written by Tom Young

India's third largest outsourcing company is outsourcing some of its own operations to the Philippines to cut costs.

Wipro has opened a centre in Cebu that will focus on customer service, technical support, human resources, and financial and accounting services.

“The Philippines is one of the largest English speaking nations with a strong IT orientation and a talent pool of 29 million," said Wipro president T Kurien.

Investment advisors Tholons identifies the Philippino capital Manila among the top five prime outsourcing destinations, and Cebu as one of the leading emerging global destinations for outsourced processes.

China, Vietnam and Africa are also increasingly popular with Indian outsourcing firms as the strengthening rupee and rising wages push up costs at home.

Last year Wipro has set up outsourcing centres in Romania and Shanghai.
