Broadband speeds in Western Europe rose six per cent to an average of 5.5Mbit/s during the last quarter.
Residential broadband speeds continues to rise in most parts of the world, but South and East Asia are accelerating fastest with average connections up 132 per cent to 3.5 Mbit/s, according to researcher Point Topic.
The Middle East and Africa was the only region where average speeds are falling - down 0.7 per cent to 1.4Mbit/s in the last three months. The figure for North America and Canada remained almost constant, at 1.4Mbit/s.
