Online security firm Websense saw revenue rise 10 per cent to $50.4 (£24.2m) during the third quarter of the financial year.

But net income dropped nearly a quarter to $6.4m (£3m), from $8.3m (£4m) in October 2006.

Contract figures for Websense were slightly dampened by competition from rival SurfControl, which was acquired by the company on 3 October. Combined net billings for the two companies reached $79.1m (£38m), within the expected range.

"With the acquisition now closed, our focus for the fourth quarter and 2008 has shifted to customer retention and improved productivity in the combined operation," said Websense chief executive Gene Hodges.

"By 2009, we expect our financial results to reflect a more efficient cost structure, as well as incremental top line growth from the expanded product portfolio."
