US telecoms giant AT&T's revenue for the third quarter has rocketed to $30.1bn (£14.69bn), almost double the $15.6bn (£7.6bn) recorded for the same period last year.

Net income totalled $3.1bn (£1.51bn), a rise of almost 50 per cent. And the firm reported adjusted earnings 71 cents (35p) per diluted share, a yearly increase of 13 per cent from 63 cents (30p).

The company added two million wireless customers during the quarter, bringing the total number of subscribers to 65.7 million.

“We delivered an excellent third quarter,” said chief executive Randall Stephenson.

"Revenue growth continues to ramp, merger integration is on track, adjusted earnings and free cash flow are both strong.”
