The UK's leading nanotechnology experts are to visit India as part of plans to encourage collaboration between the two nations.

Next week, five of the country's top researchers will embark on the first trade mission since the formation of the India-UK JETCO Nanotechnology Working Group, a joint government initiative formed in 2004.

The trip is being organised by UK Trade and Investment and The Confederation of Indian Industry.

Specialists will visit projects in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and will investigate the potential for collaborative research and bilateral trade.

The expedition will reinforce existing links between institutions in both countries said minister for trade and investment Digby Jones.

"Both India and the UK recognise the importance of nanotechnology and both countries have made exciting progress in scientific research and nurturing R &D outcomes through innovation to market," said the minister.

"The JETCO agreement endorsed by our two countries symbolises our joint determination to accelerate progress by sharing experiences and driving trade between our countriesk," he said.

A reciprocal mission from India will visit the UK at the end of November.
