Wireless network to be deployed at redeveloped international train station

Written by Dave Friedlos

Developers of the new international train station at St Pancras have appointed a supplier to install and manage a wireless broadband network.

St Pancras International is set to become the UK’s busiest international railway station when the first Eurostar train arrives in November and passengers will now be able to access high speed broadband connection at the terminal.

Two floors of the £800m redeveloped station will be WiFi-enabled, with as many as 45 million people expected to travel through the station every year.

WiFi is part of the theme to promote the redevelopment, which encourages passengers to meet at St Pancras, says station project manager Duncan Ross.

‘Ubiquitous high speed connectivity throughout St Pancras International will make communication and information an integral part of the experience and help to position the station as a world-class destination,’ he said.

London Continental Railways, which is overseeing the development, has appointed Cityspace to install the network.

It must integrate the network with the station’s Victorian architecture. When completed, it will cover approximately two square kilometres, using up to 30 BelAir 100s nodes over two floors.
