Scania is deploying remote access software

Scania staff to access data from the road

Remote staff offered global access to its network

Written by Dave Friedlos

Truck manufacturer Scania is rolling out iPass Mobile Office software to allow its remote staff around the world to log on to its network using WiFi hot spots.

Scania wanted remote access software to enable its employees to gain high speed and reliable access to business critical resources, while away from the office.

The iPass system delivers a tailored virtual network that remote staff can log into from wired and wireless connections.

The system can be accessed at more than 76,000 WiFi hot spots around the world.

Scania’s existing remote access system offers mostly dial-up connectivity but lacks global WiFi coverage which staff need for high-speed and reliable access, says isourcing manager Jens Satero.

‘WiFi was the missing link in our mobile connectivity strategy,’ he said.

‘Our employees are distributed across 100 countries, with many travelling regularly across Europe and South America, so finding a solution that could offer true global WiFi coverage and not just pockets of coverage was our number one priority.’

Services firm Flexinet will roll out the system to between 500 and 600 employees, with a view to increasing the number of users as remote working becomes more important at the company.
