Uranium firm outsources IT to CSC

Contract will last seven years, with three year extension option

Written by Tom Young

Urenco, a supplier of enriched uranium to nuclear power utilities worldwide, has signed an IT outsourcing contract with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

Urenco has signed a seven year contract, with a three year extension option. Its existing IT team will transfer to CSC.

The company says the agreement is essential to support its international expansion.

'Information technology is an important part of Urenco’s corporate strategy. We look forward to working with CSC and benefiting from their vast knowledge,' said Helmut Engelbrecht, chief executive of Urenco.

'Their expertise will enable Urenco to further develop its IT infrastructure in order to meet the requirements of our global expansion programme.'

CSC will provide a full range of IT services, including desktop support, helpdesk services, applications development, network support and mainframe services, across Urenco in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, and Washington, DC, and New Mexico in the US.

The Urenco New Mexico facility is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2008. It will be the first major commercial nuclear facility to be licensed in 30 years.

'CSC are delighted to be working with Urenco,' said Guy Hains, president of CSC’s European Group. 'CSC’s significant presence and critical infrastructure expertise in the nuclear industry will help to deliver results that support Urenco’s key business goals.'
