Energy researcher improves security

Vendor Dns to provide managed service

Written by Tom Young

Wood Mackenzie, a provider of consultancy services and research in the Energy and Life Sciences industries, has improved its managed security services.

The service, designed and implemented by dns, is providing a 24/7 managed service for Wood Mackenzie, in an industry where reputation for quality and integrity are vital.

'With the global expansion span that Wood Mackenzie are having, there was a view that we needed more strategic security, so we asked dns to put together a managed service,' said David Bathgate, infrastructure manager at Wood Mackenzie.

Headquarted in Edinburgh with offices in London, Houston, Boston, Sydney and Moscow, Wood Mackenzie needed a solution that could protect and provide support across all its locations.

Managing all of these offices remotely from Edinburgh and the cost of implementing local services in the disparate offices was providing a major headache to IT managers. And with rapid growth planned across the company, the need for a flexible managed service was crucial.

'They manage our firewalls and virtual private network (vpn), they configure devices and provide a 24/7 monitoring for all of our offices around the world. They also look after our email security. Our email is hosted externally in the US, but all of our email is forwarded through dns to provide a security service looking at anti spam,' said Bathgate.
