Harrogate Borough Council's Highways and Transport division has implemented a service management system to manage street lights and meet public service targets.
The system allows the council to automatically plan maintenance work on its 12,000 lights, illuminated signs, beacons and bollards, completing repairs within its five day service delivery target.
The rollout of the new Mayrise system is being combined with a data capture programme to accurately record the position of every lighting unit in the borough.
Information generated from the programme will be used alongside an integrated online mapping system to allow engineers to pinpoint problems quicker.
The previous system did not offer the functionality and flexibility needed to meet the expectations of residents and council service targets, says Harrogate street lighting engineer, David Oliver.
'Mayrise is not just quicker than our previous system, it is instant. We have access to historical records, ongoing service issues and planned maintenance works, improving our customer service and reducing paperwork,' he said.
Legacy records from Harrogate's previous lighting management system have been integrated into the new software, and it will soon be linked to the council's customer relationship management application.
