Tyre firm rolls out WiFi access for mobile staff

Different access systems to be integrated

Written by Tom Young

Vehicle tyre manufacturer Continental has signed a three-year deal to provide remote access for 5,000 mobile workers.

The firm wanted to consolidate several different access systems being used across the company into a worldwide unified mobility platform.

The system, from vendors ETT and iPass, will provide access to the world’s largest virtual network, including more than 62,000 WiFi hotspots, home broadband services and Continental’s own corporate and third-party connectivity services.

‘As a global company with a high percentage of mobile workers, having simple and reliable access to the internet is vital to our productivity and efficiency,’ said Hans-Peter Schober, head of networks and communication at Continental.

‘After choosing the iPass service for its usability, reliability and strong WiFi footprint, we identified ETT as one of the most flexible and committed partners.’

In addition to implementing the iPass system, ETT will operate six large virtual private network gateways on behalf of Continental, located at sites across Europe, Asia and the US.
