The London 2012 Olympic Games Organising Committee is to integrate back office systems and services to underpin the planning of the games.
The integrated information system will include finance application, facilities information, spectator services, ticket allocation data, and workforce and volunteer scheduling.
‘Putting an integrated system in place at this early stage will enable us to scale up our organisation not only at the significant pace required by the Games, but also in a controlled and efficient manner,’ said London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton.
‘The amount of information needed to stage the Olympic and Paralympic Games is vast and is evolving all the time.
‘Having a single data sharing programme in place that can integrate information across all functional and operational areas will play a vital role in our plans to host the games,’ he said.
Clive Longbottom, director at analyst Quocirca, says the value of having an integrated information system will rely on the implementation of the technology.
‘If they get it right you have a single interface, a single view on all information and it really does make life a lot easier,’ he said.
‘If they get it wrong and are fully dependent on one system they have a major problem.’
