Betting company extends licensing and maintenance deal

Written by Dave Friedlos

Bookmaker Ladbrokes has extended a licensing and maintenance deal with IBM Informix Dynamic Server to run its online betting application OpenBet.

The betting company will upgrade to a new IDS Version Nine platform, which will support its sports books and gaming sites, for the next four years.

The contract supports Ladbrokes large scale processing requirements and delivers the scalability demanded for continued growth. The upgrade and implementation should be completed by the middle of next year.

‘The nature of our business means we require a strategic data server that virtually eliminates downtime and automates many of the tasks associated with deploying mission-critical enterprise systems,’ said Ladbrokes CIO Steve Maxwell.

‘Predictable total cost of ownership and security were also imperative to our decision to renew the contract. IDS helps reduce maintenance costs through enhanced administrative features.’

The platform supports Ladbrokes’ ‘one account’ option, which allows customers to select a single user name that provides access to all channels - whether web, phone or television, and across every product.

‘This option is real differentiator for us, enabling our customers to enjoy a single relationship with Ladbrokes,’ concluded Maxwell.

IBM business partner Ardenta Limited is working with IBM and Ladbrokes to implement the upgraded platform.
