Employees lack corporate information

Survey shows respondents want more company information

Written by Tom Young

UK employees are growing frustrated at their organisations’ inability to make corporate information readily available resulting in claims that they are not as as proficient at their jobs as they could be, according to a UK survey.

The survey, from vendor Information Builders, covers 100 respondents across the public sector, energy and utilities, financial services, healthcare, IT, manufacturing and retail markets.

It found that employees, of which over half (54 per cent) have management responsibilities, would be more effective in their work if they had access to information that was easy to find and that was presented in a way that would help them to make more informed decisions.

Information Builders research highlights that most people are able to make personal decisions faster than business decisions because personal information, such as online banking, is easier to access.

A survey published by Lloyds TSB last month says almost nine out of 10 UK residents feel more confident about their finances because they have access to online banking services.

Information Builders found 90 per cent of people believe it is important to have instant access to personal data to make informed decisions such as paying bills or to make purchases, while 43 per cent said their employer do not present or provide information in the same instantaneous and easy-to-use way.

Some 68 per cent said it frustrates them that their organisation could not provide information in the same fast and easy to use way as their banks and utilities providers.

If organisations could present data in a way that enabled employees to monitor how their contributions influence the performance of the organisation, 78 per cent of respondents said they would be more productive and successful.

And 71 per cent of respondents said that they would be more effective in their work if their employer could make information available via familiar enterprise search tools such as Google Search Appliance.
