JJB Sports overhauls core IT systems

Retailer says technology will improve competitiveness

Written by Computing Staff

High-street retailer JJB Sports is overhauling its core in-store IT systems to improve its competitiveness.

The company is installing the Connected Retailer Store technology from BT Expedite at all of its 430 shops.

It will include a new till system that will be combined with ordering and stock look-up modules providing staff with full visibility of in-store inventory.

The company believes the system will give it an edge over its competitors.

'Our existing system had been in operation for many years and could not be adapted to take advantage of many retail Epos [electronic point of sale] features which are standard on newer systems,' said Mark Macaulay, associate director of IT Services at JJB Sports.

'This solution will fully meet our requirements and will give us access to many new features which we believe will give greater customer satisfaction and will help maintain our competitive stance,' he said.

The system also includes a store estate management tool which allows proactive monitoring of all devices and systems to help to prevent downtime and major incidents that could impact trading.

The programme will also be supported by BT’s Virtual View and Learn solution, an in-store elearning system that will allow JJB to rollout the new system more efficiently and without disruption to staff and shoppers.
