Doncaster College is deploying a new IT infrastructure to improve students' access to training and education resources.

The system is part of a £72m education initiative that includes the building of a new campus with full access to modern teaching equipment including interactive whiteboards and remote learning programmes.

The new college building will also get a combined voice and data system said to be 10 times faster than the one used in the old college.

Graeme Tizard, the director of IT for Doncaster College says the new IT infrastructure, designed by ComputaCenter Services, will include remote and online learning capable of serving thousands of new students every year.

'Multimedia content will be streamed via an IP-based network, which will carry 99 per cent of our voice and data traffic,' he said.

The new building which is also fitted with an electronic smart card security system and electronic registration will opens its doors to 38,000 students next month.
