MPs and their staff are to be given wiFi access to the internet in some key parliamentary buildings.
Initially the scheme will include the atrium of the new MPs' office building, Portcullis House, the House of Commons Library and new temporary accommodation areas.
The Commons Administration Committee says wireless access to the Parliamentary Network and to the internet should be available everywhere in the parliamentary estate.
The committee says the technology will help reduce the demand for fixed workstations from MPs' temporary staff, whose numbers fluctuate unpredictably.
The Commons Board of Management says the possibility of wiFi allowing direct access to the internet for staff and others, using their own equipment, is being investigated.
MPs are also calling on Commons helpdesk staff to extend their support to
MPs'
constituency offices to try to reduce the pressure on space at Westminster by
keeping more staff locally.
