Window firm gets clearer view in real time

Telematics to improve customer service and cut fuel costs

Written by David Friedlos

Scottish window firm Caledonian Windows is to use real time tracking in its fleet of vans to improve planning and management of its workforce and to reduce fuel costs.

The company will install location-based technology that can be tracked by GPS in real time, accessed from a standard web browser.

It will give Caledonian Windows full visibility of time spent on jobs and help plan and manage its workforce more efficiently.

Live vehicle tracking coupled with real-time traffic information will also allow it to provide more accurate arrival times to customers waiting for fitters to arrive.

‘Telematics helps make our business more efficient, from customer service, to time spent on jobs, through to fuel efficiency,’ said general manager James Middleton.

‘We have many sites to service and short of staying in constant phone contact with our fitters, it's difficult to tell where they are with any accuracy.’

It can now identify where all its drivers are in real time. But Middleton says the firm also chose Cybit's Fleetstar-Online product because of its links to Norwich Union.

Caledonian Windows will benefit from risk recognition rebates and fixed insurance premiums over three years.

Fleetstar-Online is scalable with an easy upgrade path so that it can evolve to meet changing business needs.
