An NHS Mental Health Trust, Mersey Care, is using a document management system to create more office space.
The system has also allowed the trust to save money and time on the filing and administration of paper records.
Hundreds of thousands of the trust's documents have now been scanned-in, electronically imaged, stored, indexed, allowing it to destroy the paper copies.
John Farquhar, the senior financial accountant at
Mersey Care, says it took very
little convince the trust that document management software was the way forward.
'Not only could the Version One
system free-up storage space, it could also improve communications across
departments who share the same files and generally improve business efficiency
whilst containing costs and making better use of staff time,' he said.
'We have also eliminated duplicated records and the need for off-site storage which was costing us thousands of pounds every year in rent and to retrieve archived documents.'
