Fast food chain KFC is implementing an eprocurement system to replace error-prone manual processes, improve efficiency and control costs.
Financial controller Strahan Wilson says the restaurant chain does not have recognised processes for procurement at any of its 300 stores.
‘We have a number of store-level costs that are at the control of the store manager, such as uniforms, equipment and cleaning goods. That meant 300 decision makers,’ he said.
‘I had no visibility or control over costs and the only way to know if the store was under or over budget was to wait until the end of the period.’
KFC orders its chicken from suppliers over the phone, a slow process prone to errors.
‘There is definite scope for improvements in accuracy and efficiency,’ said Wilson.
‘It was also important that the system be simple because for many of our staff, English is not their first language and they are not computer literate, yet we wanted their buy-in.’
The Wax Digital software will be tested at selected stores in August, with rollout planned for early next year.
It will centralise all suppliers on to one system, streamline processes and provide visibility of spend in real time.
