Boots signs £16m outsourcing deal

Retailer awards payroll and HR contract to Northgate

Written by Lisa Kelly

Boots is outsourcing it payroll and human resources (HR) systems to Northgate HR under a seven-year deal worth over £16m.

Payroll services and core HR systems for the health and beauty retailer’s 65,000 employees will be taken on by Northgate, while manpower planning and labour scheduling will be sub-contracted to Torex Retail.

Dave Vallance, head of HR operations at Boots, said: ‘We had identified a need to upgrade and improve our core HR and payroll systems. After investigating our
options, we concluded that the most efficient and effective way to do this was via outsourcing.’

Northgate will use ResourceLink, its web-enabled HR system, to provide the backbone to its service. The self-service functionality combines payroll and core
HR systems into a single database.

It will replace Boots current HR and payroll systems after a period of transition.
