The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) wants IT contractors to handle projects associated with its multibillion-pound remit to clean up and wind down the UK’s civil nuclear sites.

The NDA’s IT department is responsible for internal systems that are primarily used to administer areas such as accounting, and project and knowledge management that support the public body’s work.

Head of IT Stuart Hunt says the NDA is seeking project managers with change experience and short-term, application-driven outsourcers or contractors.

‘The IT department also has an outward-facing role looking at the civil nuclear sites themselves, where IT will be key in breaking up current organisations,’ he said. ‘It will be important from an information perspective, looking at the shared systems currently in place.’

Hunt says that last year the NDA was looking to recruit project managers with business process re-engineering expertise. But work being undertaken this year will concentrate on increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation itself.

‘Over the next three to four months, we are looking to put in more collaborative systems including video conferencing, collaborative working and workflow to try to reduce the travel requirements on the NDA’s people,’ he said. ‘We will look for best-of-breed skills that can instigate new applications and take us through to normal working.’

Hunt says successful applicants working on the collaborative technologies will need strong integration experience.
