Capitol One saves IT time

Hours of waiting time saved on key applications

Written by James Watson

Capitol One has cut hours of waiting time on some of its key applications by implementing enterprise application management tools.

The bank is using Introscope from Wily Technology to ensure the performance and 24x7 availability of its core systems.

Jackie Stringer, Capitol One’s chief technology officer, says the cumulative waiting time on one application used by sales staff in the bank’s call centre has been cut from seven hours per week to 126 seconds since using the tool.

‘Making sure the web site is performing promptly and efficiently is a core part of our service commitment to customers,’ said Stringer. ‘It’s been a steep learning curve, as the product is quite complex. We’re not yet getting all we can out of the tool, so we will look to get more benefits in the future.’

The bank will not discuss cost-savings, but Stringer says the tool has a clear business case, and prevents a lot of costly trouble-shooting time.

She now plans to extend the use of the product in the company’s IT support team to ensure that application management and performance issues can be addressed by all the groups in IT.

Capitol One has about 2,200 employees and four million customers in the UK.
