Siemens Business Services has been chosen by the Police Information Technology Organisation (PITO) to upgrade the Police National Computer. Siemens said the order is the first in the UK for its top-end S150 servers. The PNC will double its existing power by combining four of the servers, each powered by a 93 Mips CMOS processor. Siemens said the PNC handles 200,000 queries a day of the national criminal records database. Usage is set to increase with the addition of a national firearms database and a number plate database.
